Your phone becomes an offline network for messaging and navigation, with hidden messages, a secure vault, and decoy content that vanish the moment it's seized.
The problem
Bangladesh regularly faces "connectivity blackouts" during natural disasters, protests, and political unrest — moments when communication matters most. Internet shutdowns, whether deliberate or caused by infrastructure damage from floods, cyclones, or grid failures, cut off millions from help exactly when they need it.
Without internet or cell signal, people can't reach family, report emergencies, or find safe routes to shelters and hospitals. Apps like WhatsApp and Google Maps assume constant connectivity and become useless the moment it disappears, leaving communities disoriented and relying on rumors instead of facts.
Even when connectivity returns, privacy becomes a serious risk. During protests or political crises, citizens face surveillance, message interception, or retaliation for what they communicate. Standard SMS offers no protection, and a seized phone can expose everything.
Bangladesh needs a system that works without internet or cellular infrastructure, helps people navigate and coordinate safely during a crisis, and protects every message — even under coercion or phone seizure.
We are building exactly this: an offline-first mesh communication and coordination platform with built-in message privacy and emergency data protection, for the moments Bangladesh needs it most.
The solution
We built a crisis communication app for Bangladesh that works with zero internet and zero cell signal as the default case, using Flutter for the frontend. It has three core parts: offline mesh messaging, offline coordination, and privacy-first design.
Offline Mesh Messaging: Phones connect directly via Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, forming a peer-to-peer mesh. Messages hop device-to-device until they reach the recipient. A status strip always shows the truth: how many devices are nearby, whether the phone is relaying, and if internet/cell has returned. Delivery is tracked honestly through real states — Queued, Handed Off ("traveling, 2 hops away"), Delivered, Read, Expired, Retrying — instead of one misleading "sent" tick.
Offline Map & Coordination: Pre-downloaded offline maps let users navigate without internet. Users mark and view safe zones, danger zones, shelters, hospitals, and requests (food, water, medicine, rescue, missing persons). Each report shows who posted it, its age, and how many people confirmed it. Conflicting reports (e.g. "safe" vs "dangerous") are shown side-by-side, never merged, to avoid life-risking guesses.
Stealth Messaging (Privacy): A real message can be hidden behind a harmless decoy. Recipients see only the decoy unless they enter a secret code , the correct code reveals the real content in a screenshot-blocked view; a wrong code destroys it permanently, with no trace. Senders see a red dot on their own sent messages too, so they can track what they've hidden. A conversation can hold multiple hidden messages at once, each independent. Users can also bulk-prepare several hidden messages in advance. An advanced option supports a duress code that reveals harmless fake content under coercion, while the real content stays protected or gets destroyed.
Panic & Data Protection: A hidden gesture triggers emergency actions: sending a distress alert to trusted contacts, cryptographically wiping all local data instantly, or (where possible) removing the app itself. A duress PIN opens a fake, harmless version of the app while silently wiping real data. A dead-man's-switch can auto-wipe the app if unopened for set days.
Voice: Calls degrade gracefully — live call → relayed call → push-to-talk → voice notes — each clearly labeled so users know what's happening.
SMS Fallback: When only cell signal exists, critical alerts can go through SMS, clearly labeled as "not private" unless pre-secured.
Together, this keeps people connected, informed, and safe and keeps their communication private — even when Bangladesh's normal infrastructure completely fails.
