A privacy-first platform preserving July 2024 history through verified archives, protected evidence submission, private support, and missing-person coordination.
The problem
Important photographs, videos, testimonies, documents, and personal stories from Bangladesh’s July 2024 movement are scattered across social media, personal devices, and temporary online sources. Many records lack clear source context, verification status, privacy protection, or long-term organization, making misinformation, loss of evidence, and misuse of sensitive information more likely.
At the same time, injured people and their families may need medical, medicine, rehabilitation, or legal support, while families searching for missing persons need a reliable way to submit reports and possible sightings. Existing public platforms often expose personal contacts, medical documents, exact locations, and unverified claims without a controlled review process.
This affects students, journalists, volunteers, survivors, injured people, missing-person families, researchers, and future generations. It matters especially when evidence must be preserved, sensitive identities must be protected, support requests require private communication, and public information must be clearly separated from unverified or confidential records.
The solution
July Smriti Archive is a bilingual, privacy-first web platform that combines historical preservation with protected support and missing-person workflows.
Visitors can browse an administrator-reviewed public archive containing photographs, videos, testimony, documents, timeline events, Hero Stories, Aynaghor accounts, and Voices of July. Records include source context, tags, locations, editorial labels, and verification information so users can understand both the content and its level of certainty.
Registered users can submit mixed documentary evidence through a structured four-stage form. They can provide descriptions, dates, locations, source notes, attachments, consent, publication permission, and privacy preferences. Users may choose anonymity, a pseudonym, or public attribution and can request metadata removal, name redaction, face blurring, or voice protection. Submissions remain private until reviewed.
The platform also supports private requests for medical treatment, medicine, rehabilitation, and legal assistance. Each request creates a protected Support Room where the requester and authorized administrators can exchange messages and approved attachments while tracking case status and priority.
Families can create private missing-person reports containing last-seen information, identifying details, photographs, and optional map locations. Authenticated users may submit possible sightings, but contacts, exact sensitive locations, and unverified reports remain hidden until reviewed.
Administrators use a separate dashboard to review evidence, support cases, missing-person reports, sightings, users, and publication records. They can approve, reject, request more information, communicate privately, publish privacy-processed public derivatives, and record decision notes.
The platform also includes responsive design, English/Bangla support, future-date validation, map fallbacks, role-based routing, and browser-local draft preservation when users lose connectivity.
Tech stack
Frontend: React 18, React Router 6, Redux Toolkit, React Redux, Tailwind CSS, reusable CSS, Framer Motion, React Toastify, Lucide React, and React Icons.
Backend: Node.js, Express.js, REST APIs, authentication middleware, role-based access control, multipart form handling, validation, and secure cookie-based sessions.
Database and services: MongoDB, Cloudinary for media storage and controlled file delivery, Google Maps JavaScript API for location search and map pins, Google Website Translator with a local English/Bangla dictionary fallback, browser localStorage for offline drafts, and email services for password recovery.
AI tools used (section 5 disclosure)
ChatGPT was used for project planning, feature analysis, privacy and workflow design, technical explanations, debugging assistance, documentation, README preparation, and presentation content.
Claude was used to help generate and refine frontend UI components, page layouts, responsive designs, feature prompts, and implementation guidance.
All AI-generated suggestions were reviewed, modified, and integrated by the team.
