A community-driven civic platform where residents report neighborhood hazards, verify issues with evidence, and unite local voices to drive accountability and action.

The problem

Many neighborhood problems in Bangladesh—such as broken streetlights, flooding, open manholes, garbage accumulation, and damaged roads—remain unresolved because complaints are scattered across social media, personal messages, or ignored entirely. Individual reports rarely create enough visibility to encourage action, while affected residents have no transparent way to track progress or demonstrate that a problem impacts an entire community. This becomes especially critical during the monsoon season, when waterlogging, blocked drains, and unsafe roads directly threaten public safety and daily life. Citizens often experience the same issue repeatedly, yet there is no trusted, community-driven record proving its persistence. Moholla-Fix addresses this gap by enabling residents to document local hazards with photo evidence, location, and community verification. Instead of isolated complaints, people contribute to a shared public record that cannot be silently erased. The platform transforms many individual voices into collective civic participation, making neighborhood problems more visible, more credible, and significantly harder to ignore.

The solution

Moholla-Fix is a web-based civic participation platform that enables residents to report neighborhood hazards, verify ongoing issues, and organize local community action. Users begin by creating a verified account using their phone number and National ID (simulated for the hackathon). They can then submit reports by uploading a photo, selecting a category, writing a short description, and sharing their GPS location. Every report immediately appears on an interactive map and list where nearby residents can discover local issues. Unlike traditional complaint systems, Moholla-Fix encourages collective participation. Instead of creating duplicate reports, residents can use Add Your Voice to support an existing issue. This increases a public supporter count, helping identify problems affecting large numbers of people. Highly supported reports are marked as Trending, highlighting issues that deserve urgent attention. To improve trust, important actions such as supporting a report, confirming that an issue still exists, or marking it as fixed require users to be physically near the reported location. This prevents remote manipulation and ensures that community feedback comes from people genuinely affected by the problem. Each report maintains an append-only timeline containing photos, updates, confirmations, and status changes. Previous entries cannot be modified or deleted, creating a transparent public history of how the issue evolved over time. Residents may also organize community cleanup events directly from a report page. Others can join these events, allowing neighborhoods to solve smaller problems themselves instead of waiting indefinitely for authorities. A ward-level dashboard summarizes statistics such as total reports, resolution rates, and the oldest unresolved issues, promoting transparency and encouraging accountability. By combining verified reporting, location-based validation, community testimony, and transparent public records, Moholla-Fix transforms isolated complaints into collective civic action while empowering neighborhoods to work together toward safer and cleaner communities.
